Galaxy Quest TV Show Back In Development

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon has the project back in development with Paul Scheer (The League) signed on to write the new script. The first draft was put together by the film’s original writer, Robert Gordon. The initial report didn’t have many plot details, but /Film confirms the studio is apparently wanting to lure back original stars Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell and Daryl Mitchell to reprise their roles.

Though fans of the original film would likely love to see a straight-up continuation of the original film, the report goes on to note they could be used to launch a “reboot” of the fictional Galaxy Quest series from the first film to focus on a younger cast. Basically, it sounds like a passing of the torch situation, which could open the door for some of the cast to return in various capacities during the show’s run. If nothing else, Tim Allen's schedule is clear with his sitcom Last Man Standing cancelled last season.

The original Galaxy Quest hit the big screen in 1999, and focused on the stars of a defunct sci-fi series who are drafted into a real-life galactic war. The film was a modest box office hit, but gained a whole lot more fans in the years since its release. One key crew member will have either be recast or written out due to the trajic passing of Alan Rickman. His portrayal of Aurther Dane was seriously one of the best things about the film. He will as always be missed.
